The cowrie sea shell is securely held in place by a band made of a strand of kelp. The kelp strand elegantly curves around the shell, representing the fluid movement of water. Designer Melissa Chen drew inspiration from the sea shells she finds on the beach for her unique sea shell rings. She noticed that the tide often leaves strands of kelp and seaweed gracefully encircling the shells in various patterns.
