The Glass Bead Mercury Midge is one of the best nymph patterns to enter the world of fly fishing. Similar to the classic Zebra Midge, the Mercury is lighter and more attractive to trout. In remote freestone rivers, you should have no problem getting trout to eat the classic nymph patterns. But in heavily fished tailwaters, such as areas of Colorado, a midge like this is essential. They work great in multiple nymph rigs, especially during winter fly fishing when fish are more selective.
